DEFENSEWERX Presents First Ever Scholarship Awards

Niceville, FL – DEFENSEWERX announces two scholarship winners for the organization’s inaugural scholarship program. Last fall, the organization invited high school seniors throughout Okaloosa County to pursue two $5,000 merit-based scholarship awards. The scholarships were named after Master Sergeant (Ret) Dr. Jim Cunningham and Major General (Ret) Robert “ChedBob” Chedister, two individuals who exhibited selfless acts of service and leadership throughout their careers and lives.  

The two scholarship recipients were selected based on their demonstrated merit, scholarly achievements, community service, and their aspirations to give back to their country and communities. 

Major General (Ret) Robert “ChedBob” Chedister Memorial Scholarship  

ChedBob Chedister was a great man, a dedicated patriot, and an extremely loved father and grandfather. Throughout his life, ChedBob impacted countless individuals and touched the lives of those who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him. ChedBob proudly served 33 years in the United States Air Force (USAF), rising to the rank of Major General. He also served as the first Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for DEFENSEWERX, shaping the organization into what it is today. 

 We are pleased to present Hyunwoo Kim with the Major General (Ret) Robert “ChedBob” Chedister Memorial Scholarship. Hyunwoo is a senior at Crestview High School. As a first-generation college student, he will be attending the University of Florida, where he plans to study Microbiology. From there, Hyunwoo aspires to go to medical school and to serve underrepresented communities by providing medical access and raising awareness. Throughout his high school career, Hyunwoo has exemplified service and leadership through organizing numerous community service projects aimed at helping children, elderly communities, and local animal shelters. Hyunwoo has demonstrated impressive scholarly achievements and has an admirable ambition to serve and help better his community. 

Master Sergeant (Ret) Dr. Jim Cunningham Memorial Scholarship 

Dr. Jim Cunningham was known for his unwavering commitment to kindness and selflessness. Jim’s influence reached far and wide, leaving an indelible mark on those he encountered. His simple mantra, “Be a good human and be kind” was especially noted by his colleagues at DEFENSEWERX, where he worked tirelessly to shape the organization and support its mission. Jim served in the United States Air Force for two decades, displaying dedication in humanitarian and wartime missions. With a PhD in Industrial Organizational Psychology, his intellectual contributions were equally commendable. Beyond his professional achievements, Jim’s devotion to his family, showcased the depth of his character and zeal for life. 

We are pleased to present Genesis Jiminez-Chavez with the Master Sergeant (Ret) Dr. Jim Cunningham Memorial Scholarship. Genesis is a senior at Collegiate High School at Northwest Florida State College and plans to attend the University of Florida. Genesis is not only an impressive scholar, but a dedicated servant leader in her community. With over 400 hours of volunteer work as well as leadership roles in various academic and community service organizations, Genesis has a passion for serving others. Genesis aspires to utilize her deep sense of social responsibility and love of STEM to pursue a medical career and become a pediatrician.
